2015 Creative Challenge: Geek Edition

Creative Challenge

We’ve all seen and many have taken part in various creative challenges. I propose a new one–with a geek theme!

You can use YOUR OWN art medium to fulfill these, you just have to have fun! All of these will have a geeky theme, though some will be abstract enough for many interpretations. You’re artists, so be inspired and take these as a way to challenge yourselves to try something you might not have tried before. Not all of your projects will be perfect, but that’s okay! As long as you are challenging yourself and doing your best, you’ll beat this challenge.

Here we go.

You’ll have one week to finish each challenge. Once you’ve finished your artwork, post a photo online–you can use Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr, Deviantart, or whatever platform you like to use. Feel free to come back here and comment with a link to your post in case we miss it!

Use the hashtag #GEEKUARY when you post!

I’ll be sure to post each week with some of the highlights from the previous week, as well as a reminder for the next week’s theme.

If you already have made something for the theme, you have to make something new. No cheating. This is to challenge you to stay creative each week!

The list:

Week #1, due January 10:
Create a self portrait. I expect there to be obvious signs that you’re a geek.

Week #2, due January 17:
Create something inspired by your favorite sci-fi set in space. Think Star Trek, Star Wars, Doctor Who, Battlestar Galactica, Firefly, and so on.

Week #3, due January 24:
Create something inspired by your favorite geeky TV show or movie–you cannot pick the same one as last week! Use that other favorite one.

Week #4, due January 31:
Create something inspired by fantasy–unicorns, faeries, elves, and so on.

Week #5, due February 7:
Create something inspired by your favorite superhero.

Week #6, due February 14:
Create something inspired by your favorite villain. (What, you can’t think about villains the week of Valentine’s Day? TOO BAD.)

Week #7, due February 21:
Create something inspired by your favorite video game. For those of you who just died a little because you aren’t a gamer, you can still use classics like Pac-Man and Tetris. We won’t judge you. They’re classics for a reason!

Week #8, due February 28:
Create something inspired by your favorite anime or manga. Don’t watch anime? Google Pokemon, Naruto, Sailor Moon, My Neighbor Totoro, or Dragonball Z, or just Google “anime”–if you’re at work or around little ones, make sure your safe filter is on first, just in case.

That’s all for now! I’ll post more later for the next two months!
